I know. An actual car question on Oppo. What a time to be alive. So here’s my conundrum. My parents offered to buy me a customer’s LX470 that looks a lot like this one.
The catch. I would have to sell this...
To pay for part of it. The truck is 4 years newer and the space would be nice but I might never be able to buy back my first car that I love. What say ye Oppo?

Keep the one you already have.

On one hand: fancy Land Cruiser
on the other: Flagship RWD Saloon
On the other other: fancy Land Cruiser
on the rebuttal to the other other: do you really need to seat 7 people at 12 miles per gallon?
HOWEVER: fancy Land Cruiser
... THEN AGAIN: fancy Land Cruiser —
Wait. That’s it. Fancy Land Cruiser it is.
[in all seriousness, do what you want, the LX is a lot of vehicle though...]

My car needs some money thrown at it but that's what I'm leaning towards. If the customer comes down enough they might just buy it and then I can drive it while I save up to fix the LS.

Hmmm so what’s the mileage difference? I have a massive bias towards old luxo sedans so I wouldn’t, but that’s just me

I’m partial to FJ100s, so I'd pick it. If I wanted an LS sedan, I'd get an LS430. But that's just me.

I have the LS already.

I know. I’m just saying that I’d take an FJ100 over an LS400, but would probably take an LS430 over the FJ100. Even though there’s not a 430 in the mix for you.

Can’t tell - is that the big Lexus? And I’d really like the 4WD mastodon, but it’s more weight, more gas, more 4WD hardware, and more complications. If it were me? WTF? No idea what I would do, but I’m just an idiot sitting in an apartment in Manhattan.

No. Keep the LS400 dream alive

I'd keep the LS

That's what I'm going to do.

I'd say keep the LS. so clean.

It's not as pretty as it looks in that picture. Needs body work on front right and trunk and then sorority girls have made a golf ball of the side. 3k and I would have a showroom car though

I would go for the big and tall thing. Cruisers are sweet, but cruisers with leather are even better. I loved my range rover and this would just be a reliable version of that. Plus it will hold its value better I think because it is a cruiser, they’re all ridiculously priced.

Keep the LS. That’s what I’d do. Actually I’d try to get both, but I’m in the snow belt and wish I had something to tow a boat. As much as I like the LX, unless you really need the space and 4x4, it’ll be worse handling, worse MPG, probably more expensive to insure, etc. Your first car that you love, being a RWD flagship luxury sedan... it’s special, it's a keeper.

I'd go for the LX. I love those things.

Does the LX have ESC? If so, please get it. You could turn it into an off-road machine (even if you never go off-road), and you could also carry a few more people than in the LS.

Just checking in to salute the What a time to be alive. Indeed.

Haha thanks Steve. I’m still working on that ticket I called you about a few months ago. I keep pushing the date back haha. Maybe I should keep the LS just because I’ve gotten 2 tickets in vehicles with the 2UZ and only 1 in my LS400 with the 1UZ.

I'll probably be getting a GX for off road duties.

what do you want? If you want a land cruiser...do that. If you want an ls...do that.

I'd go with the LX, and I'm a huge LS fan, especially the LS400s. There is something about the LX that just looks badass to me.

All of the above

Yeah, those are pretty good, too. Standard permanent 4WD, right? A lot of 4Runners don’t even have 4WD, let alone permanent 4WD.
![]() 06/14/2016 at 22:58 |

Yep! They’re actually a Prado and less of a 4Runner. The big thing is they are smaller then the LX and therefor much each easier to off road with.

I say keep the LS, especially if you have access to other vehicles if you really need to haul something once in a while. Because the LS is just a great car, and it’s a car and not an SUV like every person everywhere is apparently buying. Plus you said you love the thing, plus , LS ALL THE THINGS, etc.

My family has a Camry, Es330, Rx400h, Gs300, ‘05 Sequoia, ‘14 Tundra, and a ‘75 FJ40. Also my fiancé has a Rx350. I have no problem with having access to vehicles. It’s just which one do I want to drive haha.

The constant conundrum that vexes me, I want all the cars, all of them. Well the interesting, funky, fun, or like in your case, just plain nice ones.

Get the LX, spend years regretting selling the LS, buy another when your midlife crisis hits.
